River is our purebred "mutt". Since there are Great Pyrenees roaming everywhere here in Tennessee, we  are guessing one of his parents is of that particular breed. As to the other half, we are assuming maybe a Border Collie, since there seem to be a few of them around also. We weren't intending to add another dog to our household, but River won our hearts (mine first, but Mike turned out to be a sucker for his big, brown eyes too). He was living along Holly Creek, near where it empties into the river. Whenever we took our dogs to the river for some swimming time, he was always there to greet us and play alongside our furry kids. I was impressed with his easy-going attitude and his gentleness towards our much smaller dogs.
As winter weather approached, I began to worry about how he would survive on his own. We knew he had been abandoned by his former owners, so, with a bit of begging on my part, Mike agreed we could bring him with us until we could find him a new home. After a trip to the vet for vaccinations, heartworm test, neutering and microchipping, he came home with us. At first he was nervous about riding in the car and absolutely refused to come into the house. However, with a lot of coaxing and patience, he settled in and has become a member of our household.
River is definitely "Daddy's Boy". He is very well-mannered and sweet, and has remained the gentle giant we first met. Even our cats, who can be a bit nervous around our active Aussie crew, love to play with River and have no fear of him at all. Any earlier plans of finding him another home are forgotten, as he is here to stay as long as he desires.
